Book 1 of the Pantheon League Series
An Early Review
by Nancy Maneely
Never before have we needed a book so badly. In a time of widespread nihilism, strife, and despair, Marie K. Savage offers us a brand-new Olympian perspective from which to view humanity’s predicament – with humor, grace, and compassion.
Oh, and did I mention fun? Political intrigue, romance, conspiracy theories, sex, gods, demigods, humans and their passions …
A near-future dystopian American "romantasy" set in a world in which mortals, demigods, and goddesses go head-to-head with the dark forces undermining democracy and sowing discord around the world. *Images are my own or from Shutterstock or other image sites.
The deities! You’ve never met gods and goddesses like Nemi and her celestial kin. Their congress with human beings are things we used to read about in high school mythology studies, but those stories never came close to Savage’s tempestuous, thrilling, and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny happenings. In Savage’s world, the stakes are high and very, very close to our reality.
The hook that grabs the reader is: What if desperate humans were actually able to inspire and rouse a band of supernatural allies, and what if those allies are awesome and super-powerful but at base, every bit as flawed as their human compatriots? As a thought experiment, ask yourself what exactly you would ask for help with, in this grim new fascist USA? Where would you draw the line in battle in the fight to restore and protect democracy?
In the midst of all the chaos, we hop onto the wild rollercoaster of a budding romance between the beautiful Nemesis, goddess of retributive justice, and Cy, born into an Arizona ranching family with strong ties to the land – and oh, he happens to be a demigod! And, as we get acquainted with their extended family members (human and other), we’re irresistibly drawn into a saga that promises to unfold even more riveting narratives. I can’t wait!
