It’s highly irregular, but true! We are a family of authors. Layla Dog Press is the Makansi family’s publishing imprint under our company, Blank Slate Communications. We’ve had books published traditionally and under Layla Dog Press, including literary fiction, romance, young adult science-fiction, and satire as well as numerous professional, business, and popular science titles.Under BSC, we offer book design, editing, and some marketing design services to authors.

Our doggie icon (Layla looking off into the horizon) reflects both. Sadly, Layla has journeyed over the rainbow bridge, but we still love her and think about her every day!

EDITING

Cumulatively, we have almost forty years of experience writing and editing fiction, non-fiction, technical articles, and commercial marketing copy. DESIGN

Kristina has designed over 160 book covers and has done at least that many interior layouts—as both a freelance cover designer and in her role as designer for Amphorae Publishing Group, a traditional small press she co-founded in 2014 and for which she served as designer and editor until 2025.
